I feel that the most important places in the house are the areas where you can simply sit and think. They are often the incidental spaces where you find yourself settling for a moment only to find half an hour has passed and you are comfortable and warm and have what you need to hand. This was a spot upstairs at John Sandoe that immediately invited me to sit and flick through a book and is so easily created; a few cushions, a window from which to gaze.
